Snitch is Closing - Closing Party May 2

Friday, May 2nd, 2008
Snitch Closing Party

After running its course, rockin' the flatiron district's busy W. 21st St. for 4 years, Snitch is closing its doors.
The Chelsea bar with a rock-and-roll vibe has played host to Metallica, Anthrax, Hoobastank, Smashing Pumpkins, the Donnas, Marilyn Manson, Alice In Chains, and countless rockers, both known and unknown, b's, wannabes and never will bes. Scott Weiland, Duff McKagan and Fuel vocalist Brett Scallions were investors at one point early in the bar's life. You never knew who might stop by or pop onto the stage.

So Snitch invites you to
"Gather up all of your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, lovers, ex-lovers (no fighting) and help us send this *infamous* Den of Sin down in history!"

New Bar: Bourbon Street Opens on Restaurant Row

While bar hopping with by friends Tim & Darren, I popped in to the brand new Bourbon Street Bar & Grille Friday night. You have to see the place. It is a beautiful bar & restaurant, and is sure to be a hit with both New Yorkers and tourists alike.

Owners Tony Doyle & Brian Connell, of The House of Brews, were there to greet the crowd who were on hand to help inaugurate the new bar. Brian gave us a grand tour of the place, which includes balcony seating overlooking Restaurant Row; a long mahogany bar in the main room, with high ceilings and Bourbon Street gaslights; and a comfortable lounge area in the back of the main floor (which used to house Danny's Skylight Room). The skylight has been replaced with a solid roof, so that the upstairs bar will have a backyard patio for outdoor drinking (pending approval). The upstairs bar & dining area overlooks the main floor, with wrought iron railing adding to the Bourbon Street motif.

Brian then showed us the spacious kitchen and introduced us to Executive Chef Tommy Hines, up from Louisiana to provide the authentic New Orleans menu. Unfortunately, the kitchen was already closing up by the time I got there, so I did not get a chance to sample the food (yet).
But I plan to be back.

Since we were in a New Orleans mood, Tim & I ended the night up at The Big Easy, where our friend Terry was hosting his monthly Zodiac Party.

The Blind Pig - 1-Year Anniversary

Congratulations to our friends at Blind Pig on their 1-Year Anniversary!

A blind pig is a prohibition-era slang for a place selling alcoholic beverages. Also known as a speakeasey.

New York's modern-era Blind Pig, opened in 2007, is celebrating their 1-year anniversary this week. It hearkens back to a prohibition-era bar with good food, good drink and good times.

Hillary Clinton Has a Shot of Whiskey

Hillary Clinton was recently spotted "drinking" a shot of whiskey, I guess to show what a 'regular' person she is. (see video below). If Ms. Clinton ever wants to drink whiskey in her "home" state, here are a few suggestions from our MurphGuide Directory of NY Scotch & Whiskey Bars:

In business for more than twenty years, The Kinsale Tavern has one of the
largest selections of whiskey in New York City.

The Kinsale Tavern
1672 Third Ave. (bet. 93rd & 94th St.)
New York, NY

St. Andrew's boasts the largest selection of single malt scotches in the city. See their
scotch list.

Failte Irish Whiskey Bar is the place to sample an Irish whiskey. They have over 20 brands, including the hard to find like Paddys, Midleton Rare and Very Rare, Lockes, and Connemara Whiskeys.
.

Other Suggestions for whiskey lovers:
Puck Fair:
298 Lafayette St. (bet. Houston & Prince) New York, NY (212) 431-1200
Whiskey River:
575 Second Ave. (32nd St.) New York, NY (212) 679-6799
Keen's Steakhouse:
72 W. 36th St. (between 5th & 6th Ave.) New York, NY (212) 947-3636
See more at
MurphGuide Directory of NY Scotch & Whiskey Bars

Is Hillary faking it?
It looks phony to me, or at least is a breach of drinking etiquette.
Watch the video below. She clinks "cheers" to the folks at the bar, then takes (fakes) a sip.
Then she moves away from the people at the bar she just clinked glasses with, and hides amid her handlers, turning her back to the camera. It looks like they are explaining how they will get rid of the shot. This is where they probably dump or switch glasses.
When she turns back around, notice that her hand is covering the glass, so you never actually see the whiskey going down. That's probably because the glass is already empty. Then she emphatically tilts her head back, trying to sell it.

What do you think? Real or fake?
