Great Guinness Toast in NYC: Friday, February 18, 2011
Tonight is the annual Great Guinness Toast.
Guinness drinkers all over the world are set to raise their pints simultaneously in the 19th annual Guinness Toast. According to TheGreatGuinnessToast.com (an unofficial site), it is always on the 3rd Friday of February, while Wikipedia says it is on February 13. Since Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle Pub in Pittsburgh, PA, originators of the toast, are holding their toast on Friday the 18th this year, that's good enough for us. In New York (and anywhere in the Eastern Time Zone) the toast occurs at 11pm ET.
In our continuous efforts to "connect the fun to the fun people", we provide you with our second annual list of places to get a great pint of Guinness in NYC. (see last year's list).
The list below is simply some of my favorite places to enjoy a Guinness in NYC. Regular readers may notice many returning bars from last year's list, because if I find a good thing, I like to stick with it. But I have added more this year. They are in no particular rank order, just sorted by neighborhood. Feel free to add your own favorites in the comments section. Slainte!

Enjoy the Thaw! Thursday, February 17, 2011
After a brutal 7 week stretch of big snow and frigid temperatures, New Yorkers should be ready to bust loose tonight. New York City seems to become extra lively on the first warm day after a long cold stretch. So in the interest of an early spring, you can witness the rebirth of Steve Marshall's Thursday night residency at Mr. Bigg's. Steve has spent a long time recovering from a serious leg injury, and is ready to rock again:
If you are already thinking of the summer, check out David Shapiro's Hampton's Happy Hour, at Opal, or listen to the Caribbean sounds of The Verdict at Soldier McGee's. But if you are still into winter, enjoy some free LaBatt's Blue at T.G. Whitney's.
Here are some fun things to do tonight in NYC...
• Live Band Karaoke at O'Flanagan's
• The Verdict at Soldier McGee's
• LaBatt's Blue Promotion at T.G.Whitney's
• Patti Rothberg at Parkside Lounge
• David Shapiro's Hamptons Happy Hour at Opal
• Ray Greiche at Rathbone's
• Hell or High Water at Rodeo Bar
• Comedy as a Second Language at Kabin
• Lasers in the Jungle at Luca Lounge
• Steve Marshall Band at Mr. Bigg's
• Thursday Daily Specials

Third & Long presents
The Anti-Valentine's Night Party
Curtis says, "It's the day that all single folks and Hallmark card haters despise the most: Valentine's Day. You see all of the lovey-dovey couples walking around star-gazing, roses in hand, chocolates and romantic dinners. As a single person, it's enough to make you puke.
Instead of sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself while watching re-runs of "Love, Actually", you would be better served hanging out with other like-minded singles at Third and Long."
No expectations for the night. No judgments.
Just a bunch of single folks getting together and having a good time without having to think about the dreaded "V-word".
Throughout the night you will enjoy:
$1 Bud/Bud Light Mugs
$2 all other Domestic Draft Mugs
$4 "Flaming Hearts" shots (Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey/Cranberry)
A music play list specifically tailored to acknowledge disdain for the holiday
