R.I.P. Farrah Fawcett 1947-2009

It has been a tough year for 1970s pop culture. Earlier this year we lost Mark Fydrich, Dom DeLuise, Bea Arthur & David Carradine. Then this week, Ed McMahon, and today Farrah Fawcett.
Our condolences to their friends and families.

Why are people who don't know her so sad? Because it reminds us of our past youth, and makes us realize we are all one day closer to our own inevitable death.

Below is a montage of Farrah's awesomeness...

and because I couldn't decide which montage to use, here is another one:

Magic Hat Brewery Tasting
Featuring flights of six different Magic Hat beers, including the newest flavors, Wacko, Odd Notion Amber Rice Lager and the Odd Notion Belgian Style beer, along with complimentary cheese pairings.
Magic Hat reps will be there to share with you the Magnificent Crapperator. Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? For those of you who need to know what you're getting into ahead of time,
this is a game similar to Plinko. So, if you were a child of The Price is Right, you know what we're talking about. Ping Pong balls will get dropped down something similar to the Plinko board and will land in cups of beer.
The prize you get depends on which beer the ping pong ball lands in.
Leave it to Magic Hat to come up with this game.

This tasting is also going to kick off Dive Bar's "Follow the Hat" game.
Every week a different Magic Hat beer will be featured at Dive 75, Dive Bar, Broadway Dive or Amsterdam 106.
Once you have ordered the featured beer from that location you will get a raffle ticket, which will give you the chance to win great Magic Hat prizes.
The only way you will know where to go or what to drink is by subscribing to and reading the Dive Bar's newsletters so make sure you don't miss them. Let's start the game off right.

Fundraiser for Eamon Cronin at Doc Holliday's

This just in from our friend Joanna at Doc Holliday's.
They are raising funds for musician Eamon Cronin who was recently injured...

Thursday, June 18
Fundraiser for Eamon

$20 cover at the door 8-11pm

Tonight, Doc Holliday's is holding a fundraiser at Doc Holliday's Bar for their former bouncer, well known singer and drummer, Eamon Cronin (and friend of the bar for 15 years) who was injured while on tour with his band, "Riders on the Storm", a worldly renown Doors cover band, in Vigo, Spain. He fell from a 15 foot stage and suffered a near death head injury.

He is still in Spain, without medical insurance, and the club is saying they have no insurance... Although an investigation has begun to hold the club responsible, he has to pay for some of the large medical bills (or they will transfer him to public, inferior care hospital) and is suffering financial hardship due to the injury.

All the information about this head trauma says that the oldest memories come back first, followed by more recent memories. Currently, he is unable to form new memories, which is why he does not remember the day before. He is starting to breathe on his own, and as soon as he can do that full time, he will be released from ICU, to a regular hospital room. It is important to get him home, in familiar surroundings, so his memory can start to come back.
Doc Holliday's is having a raffle and silent auction*, from 8-11pm. Many local businesses are donating items, such as dinner for two, tattoo time, bar tabs, shoes, clothing, baskets of booze, chiropractor services, massages, several east village bar crawls ( $100 in drinks paid for by the bar) hosted by 2 or 3 Doc's bartenders per crawl , personal training sessions, personal chef cooking lessons, haircuts, massages, a gold bag, a lava lamp, Bulldog Gin Gift Bags, a mirror, etc...100% of door proceeds ($20 suggested donation 8-11pm) and 100% of raffle and auction proceeds, plus 50% of all bartender tips and 50% of the bar sales are going to the cause.

*Raffle tickets are: 1 for $5, 3 for $10, and 5 for $15…
$3 per ticket for any amount over 5 tickets. Each auction has a different starting bid listed at the top of each auction sheet with the description of the item.

18th Anniversary Celebration at Third & Long

Congratulations to the Long brothers on their 18th anniversary of Third & Long...

The story goes like this: In 1991, two New York born Irish Catholic brothers graduated from college and decided to become firemen. At the same time, they decided to dream big and as a result, they opened a little bar in Manhattan called Third & Long. (the Long brothers on Third Ave., get it?). When the bar opened, it became an instant hit in Murray Hill. Over the course of the past 18 years it has made its presence felt in the ever-changing neighborhood and now sits as the elder-statesman of the 3rd Avenue strip.
Third and Long has been serving up fun for the past 18 years (with a closing scare back in 2007).

They invite you to help them celebrate today, Thursday, June 18th.
The celebration will include live music, "Turn Back the Clock" drink specials, and great friends both past and present in what will be a memorable night of good pouring fun!

Turn back the clock with throwback drink specials:
5-7pm: $1 Bud & Bud Light mugs
7-8pm: $2 domestic draft mugs
8-9pm: $3 Bud & Bud LIght pints
9pm - close: $4 domestic pints
