Our friend Bill Popp, and his band, The Tapes invite you to their annual benefit in honor of Bill's father, George L. Popp, a.k.a. Daddy Tapes. Each year, the band invites their friends and fellow musicians to perform while raising funds for the American Heart Association. Tonight, they will be sharing the stage with several talented acts.
They start the event every year by filling every inch of the stage with Stanley's band, who play traditional Irish music. The Tapes' guitarist Gerry Baras will perform next, followed by former member of The Tapes Anne Husick, who has sung backing vocals for Ronnie Spector, Joey Ramone and Wilson Pickett.
NYC punk rock legend Lenny Kaye, guitarist for The Patti Smith Group, performs next and the night is filled with an eclectic array of bands, from surf rockers Commercial Interruption, hip hop band B R & Time Bomb, to emcee himself Bill Popp & the Tapes. Closing the show will be the rock band Rewbee.

The Daddy Tapes Story in Brief
Daddy Tapes was the backbone of his son Bill's band, The Tapes.
Instead of retiring and moving to Florida, as he had dreamed, Daddy Tapes remained in New York, working as a night watchman until the day he died, from a heart attack, on Nov 1, 1986, at the age of 73. He remained in New York to help support Bill Popp in his musical endeavors with his band, "The Tapes".
Before the days of computer labels, Daddy Tapes would address over 200 envelopes by hand, sometimes more than twice a month, for the band's mailing list. In the early 80's, when it was rare to see someone over the age of 45 hanging out at a rock club, there was Daddy Tapes, smoking his pipe, cheering on his son's band.
Today, Bill Popp and The Tapes enjoy a 27 year history and counting, and Daddy Tapes' legacy still lives on with each band rehearsal in the house he kept for his son, where Bill still lives to this day.
