R.I.P. Mary Travers: 1936 - 2009

Folk music legend Mary Travers passed away yesterday. She attended school in Greenwich Village, where she would later come to national prominence with the folk group Peter, Paul & Mary, along with Peter Yarrow and Noel Stookey (a.k.a. Paul). They are best know for folk tunes such as "If I Had a Hammer", "Puff the Magic Dragon", the John Denver song "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and several Bob Dylan compositions, including "Blowing in the Wind". They were mainstays in the folk music scene that had its heyday in the 1960s, performing at such venues as NYC landmark, The Bitter End, which remains a live music on Bleecker Street since 1961.
